We can’t say enough how much we LOVE talking with our customers! Last week, we heard from Kaelyn, an incredibly strong and inspirational gal! Her story is below:
First off, my name is Kaelyn Thompson and I’ll be 24 September 12th. I received my transplant September 27, 2013 so I am almost two years out which is such a blessing! I have cystic fibrosis but that is not what caused me to need a transplant.
I went in for surgery for gallstones and when they removed my gallbladder, they found a 10mm kidney stone embedded inside me. They predicted the gallbladder surgery to last for an hour and half and the kidney stone surgery only 20-30 mins… Well the kidney took about 2 hours and the gallbladder only took about 20 so it was reversed and my body couldn’t handle everything. I couldn’t wake up, it took 15 hours after surgery until I finally awoke. Once I did, I was bi-pap dependent… I couldn’t breathe at all.
Within a matter of 3 days, I was told I’m being flown to Duke Hospital in NC for a double lung transplant, leaving my family and my brother back in Oklahoma. It was so hard to comprehend everything. The first gift I received was my banner with Grow Peace Love and other words! It was hung above my hospital bed! Every quote yall have came up with has given me hope and just happiness in such a tough time in my life! My Facebook cover says “with brave wings she flies”
Turtles are my favorite animal and I had turtles sent to me at Duke almost every day, colored pictures from pre-schools and stuffed animals. So of course I have the tooth brush cover that says “you’re turtley awesome” 🙂
I love the quote, “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over it became a butterfly“. That really stuck with me. I truly thought my world was over after day 9 of being on ECMO, a form of life support. Then my lungs came!
“Angels are watching over you their wings wrap gently around you whispering you’re loved and blessed.” I know I will have a forever angel by my side that gave me the precious gift of life. There is no words that will ever say how thankful I am and blessed to be given a second chance at life.
Thank yall for the encouraging words that mean so much to me! I love everything yall create!!
“Sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path to the best things that will ever happen to us” I am right where I am supposed to be 🙂 🙂
