Our Mantra

We believe it’s the little things that mean the most… that kindness really does matter… you should always be yourself… do what you love… and try to make the world a better place!

How We Got Our Start

I grew up with a mom who had a passion for making things. She was rarely seen without sawdust in her hair, stain on her fingers, or a paintbrush tucked behind her ear. Eventually, her love of creating grew into her own little gift business, run right out of our basement. Her business was woven into our family life, and looking back, I can see that growing up surrounded by her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit planted the deepest roots of the Natural Life story.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Three decades later, in 1995, I discovered that same passion for creating when I started taking black and white photos of the little things in life that made me happy… dogs on the beach, Adirondack chairs, words written in the sand… My makeshift darkroom gave my photos a raw and imperfect look, like a rustic filter before filters even existed. After covering a wall floor-to-ceiling with my favorite framed photos, I was inspired to try becoming a professional photographer. Although the idea of leaving my unfulfilling job to pursue something I truly loved felt both thrilling and terrifying, I took the leap and named my new company Natural Life Photography.

The First Natural Life Product

Before I found my first customer to photograph, friends and family began asking to buy the photos right off my wall. That inspired me to turn my favorite photos into tiny framed keepsakes and magnets and sign up for a local arts market. When the keepsakes sold out in an hour, I realized Natural Life could be a different kind of business! I couldn’t wait to find a handful of stores to carry the keepsakes and watched from afar as people connected with them and shared them with others. That’s when the magic really began. - Patti Hughes

Do What You Love & You’ll Never Work a Day in Your Life!

I had found my passion and felt happier than I had ever been before. The gifts my mother quietly passed down to me not only gave me the courage and knowledge to start my own business, but the talent to create things people love! Over the years I have met talented artists and people that I invited to help grow Natural Life. I have fun with every aspect of the company… enjoying the business side as much as the creative side!

I still oversee every single detail of every product we make and am proud and lucky to say that everything about Natural Life is still my passion! The heart of our brand comes from the things I’ve always loved most — rediscovering nostalgic treasures from my childhood, wandering through global artisan markets alive with color, and getting lost in vintage shops and antique stalls full of hidden gems. These are the places and moments that spark everything we create.

My biggest hope is that my daughters, and women everywhere, discover their talents and passions so they can build a life doing what they love. When that happens, something magical unfolds. You live happier. You notice the little things. You make the world a better place.
