Corn Hole! It really is the ultimate back yard, side yard, front yard, at work, at home, at the park, at the beach or even on the sidewalk UPGRADE for this year's socially distant summer (and quite honestly… all year round!). So... get your paints and paintbrushes and join the fun of playing CORN HOLE!
We absolutely LOVE the idea of corn hole but maybe even more than that we are CRAZY about decorating our corn hole boards!
We actually made our very first set of corn hole boards about 10 years ago when we were hosting the Natural Life Music Festival in our hometown of Jacksonville, FL. We were always very scrappy, creative and resourceful since the event was a fundraiser for a local organization; Children's Home Society.
Mike Hanna, the brother of Natural Life founder, Patti Hughes, built our awesome first set of corn hole boards! They were almost perfect but the plain wood needed some TLC so we grabbed some spray paint and funked out the corn hole boards! Little did we know, this was just the beginning...
We soon realized how easy it was to get a blank set of boards (thanks Mikey!) and decided to go for it and made a few more sets for the Natural Life family.
Once we started hand painting the boards, it seemed like almost all of the creatives at Natural Life wanted in! We couldn’t fit everyone around the board to paint at the same time so we took turns. It was such a fun, collaborative process. Someone would do a row around the boards in blue hearts, the next person would come along and paint yellow polka dots on the hearts and then someone else would do a row of neon scrolls, and so on, and so on…. Patti’s Mom, Mimi, even hand made the bean bags for us using old India blankets! EVERYONE wanted to take the sets home but we ended up keeping them at the office where we often have a lunch time practice round and an after work tournament last year!
We are so lucky to have an open courtyard in our office? and that is exactly where we held our first CORN HOLE TOURNAMENT! Watch our video below!
Corn Hole Tournament 2019 ... Woohoo!
The office tournament was such a blast that we ended up sponsoring another event supporting HEAL, an amazing organization where Patti Hughes, Natural Life founder, is a board member and one of our very own Natural Life graphic designers, Sara Lear, is a junior board member.
So, what do you need to DIY some groovy corn hole boards?
Not much, really! Depending on where you live, you should be able to find plain corn hole boards online. Then, all you need is a quart or so of paint for the overall board and background color and then whatever you like to paint with most! Paint markers or paint brushes - acrylic dries the fastest so we recommend that. If you have time try and add a coat of acrylic polyurethane to help protect the paint and keep it looking good for a really long time!
